Yes, a corvette post. Deal with it. This video review is okay so far, I'm not telling you to watch it, but it does capture what a Corvette does to you
That smile after putting his foot in it...I had the same kind of reaction the first time I drove one. Then the comment of 'now I get it'. Then the 'I need to do it again'
These are the 3 stages of Corvette. Enjoy responsibly.

I have been obsessing over C5s lately.....so much car for the money

I've shifted to the C6. I started out thinking I preferred the C5 because it's such an unreal value, but the C6 is starting to get there (and it will), and I've completely fallen for the C6 after driving two and riding in one at autox. They look better, the interior is better, etc.
I wish I didn't owe so much on the Sonic...I need one...

I'm in the same boat as you. But I don't think I'm ready for something that fast. (I did truly awful with the Boxster this weekend) It'll be a good car to transfer to once I'm through with the Fiesta. YES IF I BUY A CORVETTE I WILL RALLYCROSS IT

I wasn't very interested in corvettes until I drove an old one, and even then it was nearly impossible to get into gear or drive because I was used to newer cars and the gear oil was basically molasses. But it was all good fun, the challenge making things more interesting, and. I ended up with tons of respect for the car, the community and the basic formula of pushrod V8 + good chassis. It's more rewarding to drive a car that can do just about anything you expect it to, as long as you know how to make it.

I love corvettes, but not a fan of listening to this guy lol.

As Mr. Regular said, when you're into Corvette's you're INTO Corvettes.

The only Corvette I've personally driven was a family friend's C3 (I can't ever remember what year, want to say early 70s) and I wasn't originally going to get to.
I've been obsessed since I was a kid but I never really got to spend much time up close to one. For my 18th birthday, mom and dad arranged for me to get a ride in the C3. The guy drove us about five miles out of town, pulled over, and asked if I wanted to drive it back. I think my reaction was, "Seriously?" Followed casually by, "Sure," as I tried to keep it in my pants.
The straight shot back to the school parking lot was the best five miles I've ever spent on the road. Almost eight years and a happy marriage later, it still puts a smile on my face.

Except when it comes to the 2nd-gen Honda Fit. That is a really terrible car.
If it was less sporty looking and didn't try to look like a fast car with all the gauges and the sport mode and the flappy paddles I'd say it's a competent city car, but it tries to be fast, the ride is harsh because of it, it's slow in a straight line, it's "meh" around corners, and the automatic transmission makes me fear for humanity's future.

When I was a kid I wanted a C5Z. Now the C6 has grown on me, but I've also grown soft and started to drift towards the 335xi. After riding in my co-workers 335i with full bolt ons it really opened my eyes to the BMW. I know they are vastly different cars but I'm not going to track either

Yeah you're probably right.

I'm super biased, as a C5 owner who spent this past Spring vigorously shopping for a Corvette, but I look at it like this: For the same money, you can get an average condition early C6, or the nicest C5 in the world. My opinion, having driven both, is that while the C6 is faster by every measure, the C5 is more fun. The old car seems more tail-happy to me, and we all know that Tail-happy=Fun !

I'm torn on what I'll actually do when I'm ready to buy. It'll be a gametime decision: I'd really like a C6, but I could get a really good C5 for quite a bit less than a C6.
I want a C6, but I pretty much expect to get a C5 then trade it towards a C7 when they dip into the sub $30,000 range.

Whatever you do, make sure it's an emotional choice. Logical choices by car guys are how people end up driving Camrys. And remember, if you ever have a shred of buyers remorse after you reach Corvette Nirvana, just take a look at that power-slidey monster and think to yourself: "Dat burnout, tho..."
I seriously just open my garage and stare at mine pretty much every day!
And no matter what you buy, Oppo will embrace your choice with open arms and brotherly insults! Unless you buy a Mitsubishi. People will get mean if you buy a Mitsubishi.

When I was younger I was always getting tired of my cars and bought the next new thing every few years. Think bugeye wagon to '94 c4 to ms3 to 2011wrx and maybe on to a fiesta st even yet. My C5z is just different because I've remained happy with it..maybe because I mod it so often. Maybe I will buy a C7Z in ten years after my car has become too track focused to drive on the street, but I'm not feeling that way now. Therefore I will grow old with the car and perpetuate the "grey haired hawiian wearing shirt gold chain chest hair popping plumber who finally saved up enough for his dream car 1976 c3" when I drive it on the street. It's looks become positively dated in another 10 years. But then hopefully we're cool again in 25 years when it hits classic status. Mark my words, the masses will be trashing the C7 in another 10 years calling it heavy ill handling old tech pushrod leaf spring terrible build quality etc. because they don't really know anything about cars.

The Corvette has made me regret all of my car buying decisions to this point because I could have a C6 right now.
I've even tried to think of ways to get out of my current car debt and into a Corvette, and the only one that is reasonable is having my car totaled by some idiot on the road.
But at the same time, I feel someone similar to what you describe about my Sonic. It's a fantastic little car. I've modified it enough that it's truly mine. I'm happy with it for what it is, but I wish it was an LS powered American sports car

I don't think I'll have any buyers remorse when I have a Corvette in the garage.
I have serious buyers remorse that I don't already have one, and that I owe so much money on my current car that I can't realistically get one for some time.
I'm a 25 year old man living off the mistakes a 22 year old made, making some less than stellar decisions along the way.

Hell, if you wait a few years you should be able to pick up a C6Z for fairly cheap and those are freaking animals! Plus you'll have a nice winter car/grocery getter that's paid off. You really won't want to park your pristine yellow Z06 in the grocery store parking lot. Your nerves will get to you knowing it's out there marinating in the lowest rungs of society after like 5 minutes.

I know...
I also need a house first. That should come sometime in 2015. Then it's hardcore save for a vette time, I'm hoping sometime in 2016 I can afford to nab a ~$10-$15k C5 to hold me over for another year or two until the C7s start to dip into the low $30k/high $20k range.

I'll likely never be without one again, after having two, taking a break and just recently getting one again. Love it.

I expect to have one of some kind for life once I get one.
I've jokingly (but not really) said I need one before I have kids so I can say 'sorry honey, I had the Corvette first. It stays'

That is what I did. Just got our first one since the wedding, told her it was a pre-req to the crib midgets.
